PROJECT INFORMATION

At Platinum Electricians, we prioritize a structured and safety-first approach to help meet the operational and compliance objectives of the University. Our team of skilled technicians, all equipped with valid Contractor Cards, adheres to specific site protocols to ensure the highest standards of safety.

Before each DB shutdown, we perform thorough risk assessments to identify potential hazards and ensure a seamless operation. When necessary, we arrange temporary power solutions to maintain the continuity of essential services, minimizing disruptions.

Leveraging the University’s stock of RCDs and load centres, our team efficiently implements upgrades to ensure fast turnaround times and cost-effective solutions. Regular weekly progress meetings with Central Operations Services (COS) foster transparency and keep us aligned with project goals throughout the program.

SCOPE OF WORKS

  • Audit-based identification of eligible RCDs and circuit breakers for upgrade.
  • Safe isolation and shutdown of distribution boards (DBs) in accordance with University procedures.
  • Replacement of recalled or outdated RCDs with new, compliant models.
  • Detailed testing, including insulation resistance, polarity, RCD trip times, fault loop, and earth continuity checks.
  • Reinstatement and testing of all power and services post-installation.
  • Updated DB schedules and comprehensive as-built documentation, including before-and-after photos and asset register updates.

CHALLENGES

Delivering this project across regional campuses presented several logistical and technical challenges:

  • Works needed to be conducted outside standard hours to avoid disruption to faculty operations.
  • A wide variety of RCD brands and board configurations required careful onsite assessment and stock matching.
  • Critical circuits had to be identified and managed to avoid unintended shutdowns or nuisance tripping.
  • Ensuring compliance with strict University of Sydney Electrical Services Standards and documentation procedures.
