PROJECT INFORMATION

The retirement village required the installation of a back up generator, which would also involve the installation of a new main switchboard with an ATS (Automatic Transfer Switch) to change over from mains supply to generator supply in the event of a power outage.

SCOPE OF WORKS PERFORMED

  • Installation of Generator
  • Installation of new Main Switchboard

  • Installation of temporary power for the duration of the shutdown
  • Close coordination with supply authority
  • Installation of temporary fencing and traffic/pedestrian management
  • Civil works including concrete cutting, installation of trafficable pits, installation of a new concrete walkway
  • Installation of underground consumer mains, submains and underground conduits
  • Reinstatement of all hard surfaces and line marking of car park
  • Reinstatement of all turf and garden beds
  • Supply of O&M (Operations & Maintenance) Manuals, compliance documentation and as-built/as-installed drawings

PROJECT CHALLENGES

  • The project involved concrete cutting and trenching through the main village car park for the installation of the generator submains. Traffic management and pedestrian management was required for the duration of the project, as well as close coordination with village staff to ensure minimal impact to the operations of the site.
  • A 16 hour shutdown was required to safely cut over to the new main switchboard. Temporary power was set up for the duration of the shutdown to maintain power to all critical equipment, as well as lighting for the residents safety.

KEY ACHIEVEMENTS

  • Project completed on time and on budget
  • Successful installation of the back up generator to now supply temporary power to the village in the event of a power outage
  • Successful completion of works over the 5 week program with minimal impact to residents and the operations of the village
  • Close communication and coordination with all key stakeholders
