School LED Lighting Upgrade Program
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Modernising essential electrical assets across nine public schools.
Platinum Electricians delivered a coordinated program to replace ageing fluorescent lighting with energy-efficient LED technology. Nominated ceiling fans, switches and controls were also upgraded to improve reliability and consistency across learning and support spaces.
The program was carefully planned around school activities and completed using after-hours, weekend and school holiday work windows.
SCOPE OF WORKS
The program was delivered across three awarded work packages and nine operational school environments. Works were sequenced building-by-building and predominantly undertaken after school hours, on weekends and during school holiday windows.
- Removal of existing fluorescent light fittings;
- Installation of LED panels, battens, downlights and retrofit lamps;
- Replacement of nominated ceiling fans and controllers;
- Replacement of switches within upgraded rooms;
- Electrical isolation, testing and commissioning;
- Minor patching, painting and reinstatement;
- Asbestos risk controls within nominated areas;
- Compliance, quality and handover documentation.
Delivery Priority: Complete the upgrades safely and efficiently while maintaining secure, functional and low-disruption learning environments.
SAFETY AND SUSTAINABILITY
Controls designed for occupied school environments
All works were managed under Platinum Electricians' certified WHS Management System, tailored to live school environments and site-specific risks including student access, working at heights, electrical isolation and asbestos-containing materials.
WHS Management Plans, SWMS and task-specific JSAs;
Site inductions, daily pre-starts and toolbox talks;
Lock-out/tag-out procedures for electrical isolation;
Exclusion zones, fencing and safety signage;
Scaffolding and EWP access for elevated works;
Asbestos register review and hygienist oversight where required.
Lower-energy lighting and responsible material recovery
The upgrade replaced inefficient fluorescent lighting with modern LED technology, cutting energy use and maintenance demand while preparing the schools for the upcoming fluorescent lamp phase-out.
reliability and longer service life.
VERIFIED FROM INSTALLATION TO HANDOVER
Quality was controlled through documented Inspection and Test Plans, progressive checks and post-installation audits at each school. Completed works were inspected, tested and verified before practical completion and client sign-off.
PROJECT OUTCOMES
A compliant, reliable lighting solution ready for long-term operation.
The completed upgrades improved lighting consistency and energy performance while reducing the maintenance burden associated with ageing fluorescent fittings. All nominated work areas were fully reinstated, documented and handed back for use. The project was successfully delivered to the required standards, with excellent feedback received from School Infrastructure NSW (SINSW) regarding the overall quality and delivery of the works.
