Many home handymen still feel qualified to perform simple electrical repair jobs around the house without calling an electrician. Whilst some tasks might seem to be extremely simple, we need to remind ourselves that many of the hundreds of home fires we here reported every year in the media are caused by bad wiring, faulty appliances, or poorly maintained wiring.

It’s important to protect our family from this potential danger by recognising the fact that only licensed electricians are qualified to do any electrical repairs around the house. Indeed it is also illegal in some jurisdictions to perform even the simplest electrical maintenance work and the reasons are obvious.

We have all become completely dependent upon electricity these days and we have an ever increasing number of appliances and devices around the house. That’s why the maintenance of all things electrical should be a priority for every home owner. Why try to circumvent the need to employ electrician by trying to keep up-to-date with such complexities yourself?

In order to bring this message home let’s look at the advantages of hiring a licensed electrician.

  • Safety is the first obvious reason and this is more so when you consider the complexity of the appliances and electrical systems we have in our houses today. It is simply not sufficient to keep up-to-date with these changes yourself because of the complexities and licensing requirements that many jurisdictions impose upon us. For safety’s sake then, you should always call a licensed electrician.
  • Convenience is another factor. There are literally hundreds of electricians in almost every residential area in Australia so you will always find one who can visit you quickly and get the job done for you so you don’t suffer extended inconvenience. Many electricians offer a 24 hour a day service and, even though you may have to pay extra for out of hours work, you do not need to be exposed to any danger for extended periods of time.
  • Some electrical services providers may charge lower service fees but if they are not properly licensed you may live to rue the day. Only a licensed electrician can provide you with the peace of mind you need as well as the expertise required to effect repairs and electrical work in general.
  • Flexibility and depth of knowledge. All licensed electricians have undertaken extended periods of training and an apprenticeship which exposes them to a broad range of issues. During this time they have developed a depth of professional skill that allows them to remedy almost any situation you may be faced with. This gives you the peace of mind you need when calling an expert because there is virtually nothing they cannot do for you when it comes to anything to do with electricity.

It seems trite to look for reasons to only use a licensed electrician because the benefits are so obvious. Electricity is one of the cornerstones of our modern life but it also presents us with so many hidden dangers that we tend to ignore the complexities around our homes.

When it is all boiled down, safety should always come first and that is reason enough for us to only use licensed electricians.
